Apeldoorn

Apeldoorn Logo

Apeldoorn is the green and spacious capital of the Veluwe. Here you will find the space to live, work, try and learn. Originally, Apeldoorn has been a place where people come to relax and be in nature. The royal family settled here. That's why you'll find the world-famous Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn.

'Royal' goes beyond our royal roots. It stands for grand, spacious, quality, spacious and hospitable. 'Green' represents more than just nature: it is our promise to ourselves and future generations to be a frontrunner in the field of sustainability, climate and energy transition. Apeldoorn is number 1 in the list of greenest cities in the Netherlands. Green is in our DNA. Our ambition does not stop at national borders. Apeldoorn wants to become the greenest city in Europe. In doing so, we gratefully make use of the abundance of greenery that is already there. Our spacious leafy neighborhoods with beautiful homes. The many city parks. At the same time, we are constantly expanding our green character. Right down to our capillaries. Sustainable housing, businesses, training, mobility and policy. Together we work to make the city even nicer to live in. For our 180,000 inhabitants and for newcomers. For the millions of visitors who visit our cozy city center, Apenheul, the Hoge Veluwe National Park or Julianatoren. Apeldoorn will be the outdoor museum of the Netherlands, where the greenery connects visual art and modern architecture, where you can enjoy outdoor performances, audio tours and art routes in the green, where the art is on the street and the sculptures are created.

Our ambition attracts pioneers. People who want to contribute to our sustainability transition. They believe in our mission. We are proud of all our 16,288 companies, including Remeha, the European leader in heat pumps. At our Newtechpark, a testing ground for the latest technical applications. Op Bredenoord, pioneer in the field of alternative energy supplies. On Centraal Beheer, sustainable insurer, for whom many people "Just call Apeldoorn". But also in all armed forces that are based in Apeldoorn and work together with the business community and education on sustainable (digital) security.

A Visit to Paleis Het Loo

Het Loo

Paleis Het Loo is located in the heart of the Netherlands, on the outskirts of Apeldoorn. In the course of those 300 years, the palace has had a lot of very diverse residents and the building itself underwent many changes. Since 1984, after a thorough restoration, this former royal palace has become a museum and has been open to the public.

De Hoge Veluwe National Park

De Hoge

De Hoge Veluwe National Park is - partly due to the variety of landscapes - the most surprising national park in the Netherlands. The Park is famous for its rare animal and plant species. There are excellent possibilities for wildlife observation in the park. With over 40 kilometers of paved cycle paths, free-to-use White Bicycles, and a lot of different walking routes, the Park offers something for everyone. The Kröller-Müller Museum - located in the center of the park - shows works of great masters like Van Gogh, Picasso and Mondriaan. The visitor will also come across several monuments by famous architects Berlage and Van de Velde in the Park.
The famous country residence/museum Jachthuis Sint Hubertus is perhaps the most impressive example. The special combination of nature and art guarantees a Park with a high recreational and educational value. Due to the high natural value, the area is also assessed by researchers as very valuable.

Apenheul Green Zoo

Apenheul

Apenheul is a beautiful, green zoo. At the park, our guests can get acquainted with about 35 different species of primate (almost 300 individual animals in total), about half of which roam freely among the visitors. The primates live in large, natural habitats which stimulate their natural behavior, and it means that you get to see the primates at their very best.
Every year, around 500,000 people experience an unforgettable day out in Apenheul. In 2016, we were even voted the best day out in the Netherlands. We are experts in the field of primates thanks to our years of experience and research.
